a confidence project

When I meet with people who are curious about how I got started with project-based consulting work, I share that my first project was chosen with the intention of building my confidence.

I had strategized, built and executed advertising and marketing campaigns for years but never with this new set of variables. At that moment, I lacked confidence in myself. Money, time, resources aside, I had to find a project that made sense for this very intangible (increase in my confidence) result that would be foundational to future success.

Thankfully, I had a really supportive former coworker, manager, client and current friend who sent a referral my way. I was scared and felt ill-prepared but it was a confidence project, right?

My first client had this to say: “Melinda was an amazing partner ... She had to pick up after I had troubles with my first freelancer and it was a night and day experience ... She was very communicative ... set realistic expectations to help me understand how things were going to work. She was responsive and always met her deadlines while showing flexibility and adaptability when I needed to shift mine. Her attention to detail was impressive and the rounds of revisions each time moved the project forward ... She is a smart, holistic problem solver ... I can't say enough about Melinda - hiring her will be one of the best business decisions you make!!”

Not everything for me is driven by money or metrics. I have a lot of intangibles that are important as I continue working on my own set of successes.
