Complex Can Be Beautiful

My experience with complex projects can be apace with that of a weaving loom. Weaving with a loom involves holding the various threads under tension to help facilitate the weaving of those threads into an organized pattern. Each thread has impact to the overall strength of the fabric, as well as the aesthetics of the final work.

When putting this into practice with an organization or teams of individuals, a similar design emerges. I am strategic in my approach; dynamic and outcome focused. This makes me able to easily navigate and switch course when necessary to avoid following the wrong path or becoming immersed in inconsequential details. If a piece of the plan becomes snagged, I can swiftly lead it to a better result.

Natural intuition and adapted leadership skills enabled me to move fluidly in a dual role capacity with a new outpatient facility owned by an academic medical center. I was an integral member of a team that coordinated multiple tiers of audiences who had vested interest in the success of the monumental project. A unique opportunity was presented here with respect to the funding for this project since there were private and public donors.

One of the elements of this project, which brought a lot of complexity, was the coordination and navigation of the collective expansion project. A long list of donors, to include individuals and foundations, private donors as well as government officials, who had established relationships, were key players. Patients, physicians, nurses, and other providers were another level of audience to thoroughly consider.

Focused and deliberate on the how to accomplish this was essential, although the who were impacted by the change, was equally important. Strategic thinking around the patient experience and the teammate approach was crucial. Leading conversations about making this a positive and easy transition for those who would experience change, both from a patient encounter and a teammate process was non-negotiable. This was a long gain, but all the pieces or threads were thoughtfully and carefully measured, which utilized my leadership skills to prove calm when there was chaos.

This piece of work and my involvement with it produced many threads that were vital to its realization. Each thread of color introduced new and amazing opportunities to create a beautiful experience for the result, which was a new comprehensive facility that provided exceptional services to those it served.
